Explore Cherrapunji

Cherrapunji, also known as Sohra, is a small town located in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, northeastern India. It is famous for being one of the wettest places on Earth, receiving an extraordinary amount of rainfall, particularly during the monsoon season. The region's lush green landscapes, cascading waterfalls, and dramatic landscapes make it a popular tourist destination for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and those interested in exploring the unique environment created by its heavy rains. Cherrapunji offers several remarkable natural attractions. Nohkalikai Falls, one of the highest waterfalls in India, is a major highlight, plunging over a cliff into a pool below, surrounded by lush vegetation. The town is also known for its living root bridges, which are unique to the region. These bridges, formed by the roots of rubber trees, are an example of the ingenuity of the Khasi people, who have used these natural bridges for centuries to navigate the dense forests. Another popular spot is the Mawsmai Cave, a limestone cave that features fascinating stalactites and stalagmites formations, drawing visitors with its surreal and mysterious atmosphere. The town’s cool, misty weather, stunning natural beauty, and unique landscapes make Cherrapunjee an unforgettable place to visit. It is also a gateway for travelers exploring nearby attractions like Dainthelen Falls, Thangkharang Park, and the David Scott Trail, a historical trekking route. Cherrapunjee remains a symbol of Meghalaya's exceptional natural heritage, offering an unparalleled experience of nature’s beauty and the traditions of the indigenous Khasi people.
