1. e-Visa for Federal Iraq

As of March 1, 2025, Iraq has suspended the visa-on-arrival policy for most nationalities, including Indian citizens. Instead, travelers are required to obtain an electronic visa (e-Visa) before arrival. The e-Visa is valid for single or multiple entries, with a typical duration of 30 days

Required Documents:

  • Valid passport (at least 6 months validity)
  • Recent passport-sized photograph
  • Proof of accommodation in Iraq
  • Return or onward flight ticket
  • Travel insurance (mandatory)
  • Health insurance (mandatory)

2. e-Visa for the Kurdistan Region of Iraq

The Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRG) has its own e-Visa system. Indian citizens can apply for an e-Visa through the KRG's official portal.

Required Documents:

  • Valid passport (at least 6 months validity)
  • Recent passport-sized photograph
  • Proof of accommodation in the Kurdistan Region
  • Return or onward flight ticket
  • Travel insurance (mandatory)​

Important Notes

  • Health Insurance: As of February 2025, all foreign nationals applying for an Iraqi visa are required to have Iraqi health insurance. This can be obtained through the Electronic Insurance platform integrated within the e-Visa application system. ​
  • Travel Insurance: Mandatory for all travelers to Iraq. ​
  • eVisa India Processing Time: Typically 3–5 business days for e-Visa applications.​
  • Validity: e-Visas are generally valid for 30 days.​
  • Entry Points: Ensure your e-Visa corresponds to your entry point (Federal Iraq or Kurdistan Region).

Important Considerations

  • Separate Jurisdictions: The Kurdistan Region has its own visa policies and may have different requirements and processing times compared to federal Iraq.
  • Application Process: For federal Iraq, applications are processed through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while the Kurdistan Region requires applications via its eVisa portal.
  • Travel Plans: Ensure you apply for the appropriate visa based on your intended destination within Iraq to avoid complications upon arrival.
