Explore Latvia

Latvia, nestled in the Baltic region of Northern Europe, is a country characterized by its rich history, vibrant culture, and stunning natural landscapes. The culture of Latvia is a tapestry woven from centuries of influences from neighboring countries, including Germany, Sweden, Russia, and the indigenous Baltic tribes. This fusion is reflected in Latvia's architecture, cuisine, and traditions. Latvian, a Baltic language, is the official language of Latvia, spoken by the majority of its population. Russian is also widely spoken due to historical ties with the Soviet Union, along with other languages like English and German, especially in urban areas. The euro (EUR) serves as the official currency, facilitating trade and commerce in this member of the European Union. Latvian culture is celebrated through its music, dance, folklore, and literature. Traditional festivals such as Jāņi (Midsummer) and Līgo celebrate the summer solstice with bonfires, singing, and dancing, showcasing Latvia's deep connection to nature and its seasonal rhythms. Latvian cuisine features hearty and wholesome dishes, often made with locally sourced ingredients like potatoes, fish, and rye bread. Latvians take pride in their culinary traditions, which include savory pies, smoked meats, and pickled vegetables. The Latvian countryside is dotted with picturesque forests, lakes, and rivers, offering opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, and mushroom foraging. The Baltic Sea coastline boasts sandy beaches and charming seaside towns, attracting visitors seeking relaxation and seaside adventures. With its rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and warm hospitality, Latvia invites travelers to explore its hidden gems and discover the unique charm of this Baltic nation.
