The Maheshwaram Sri Siva Parvathi Temple at Chenkal, also known as β€œDakshina Kailasam”, is home to the tallest Sivalingam in India, recognized by the India Book of Records. The temple features six meditation halls, 108 unique Sivalingams, and 64 forms of Lord Shiva, offering a serene and spiritual experience for devotees and visitors alike.

Nearby, the Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary in Thiruvananthapuram district is a pristine protected area celebrated for its rich biodiversity, scenic landscapes, and tranquil environment. The sanctuary surrounds the Neyyar Dam, constructed in 1958 on the Neyyar River, which serves as a key source of water for irrigation and drinking. Spanning 128 square kilometers, the area offers lush greenery, serene waters, and a remarkable variety of flora and fauna, making it a perfect destination for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.

Package Itinerary

Day 1 Trivandrum Day Trip

Pick up from Trivandrum city and begin an exciting Kerala day trip to explore Sri Chengal Siva Temple, Neyyar Dam, and Kottoor Elephant Rehabilitation Centre. En route, visit the Chenkal Maheswaram Sri Sivaparvathi Temple (entry approx. Rs 150 per person), where devotees can witness Kailasam, a replica of the Himalayan abode of Lord Shiva and Parvathi with snow-clad idols. The temple features 12 Jyothirlingams of Lord Shiva and 32 forms of Lord Ganesha, making it a unique spiritual experience in the world.

Continue to Neyyar Dam, where you can enjoy the Deer Park, Crocodile Farm, and the scenic dam site. Optional activities include boating at Neyyar Dam (approx. Rs 400 per person) and a visit to the Butterfly Park (subject to operation). Note: Neyyar Dam is closed on Mondays, and large coaches may have restricted access near the boating area.

End the trip with a visit to the Kottoor Elephant Rehabilitation Centre, a haven for rescued elephants, and enjoy close encounters with these gentle giants in a natural habitat.
