Tourist Visa

Vatican City does not issue its own tourist visas. If you want to visit Vatican City, you actually need to get a Schengen visa for Italy (or another Schengen country), because Vatican City is located inside Rome and has an open border with Italy.

Here's what you need to know:

If you already have a valid Schengen visa (or are from a country that can travel to Italy visa-free, like the U.S., Canada, Australia, Japan, etc.), you can freely enter Vatican City.
If you need a visa, you must apply for an Italian Schengen visa through the Italian embassy or consulate in your home country.
Entry to Vatican City itself (for example, to visit St. Peter’s Basilica, the Vatican Museums, or attend a Papal Audience) does not require a separate visa or special permission once you are in Rome.

Basic steps if you need a visa:

Apply for a Schengen short-stay visa through the Italian Embassy or Consulate in your country.
Make sure to state your primary destination is Italy (since you enter Vatican City through Rome).
Once you have your Schengen Visa, you can visit Vatican City freely during your stay.

Documents Required:

Completed application form.
Passport (valid for at least 3 months beyond your stay).
Recent photos.
Proof of accommodation (hotel bookings in Rome, etc.).
Proof of sufficient financial means.
Travel insurance (coverage of at least €30,000).
Round-trip flight booking.
